2010: Books I read

Yeah, yeah, I'm not really original, cause both Andrea and Mary Lou already made a post about this, but at risk of humiliating myself, I'm going to share with you those books I remember I read last year. I guess there aren't as many as I'd like to because I was abroad mainly having other kind of fun, bad excuse, I know. To be honest, some of them (two or three, no more) were not finished but that's one of my worst defects. There's a lot of poetry, you'll see, and I'm sure you'll distinguish the summer readings from real literature...hehe. The (R) is for re-reading. The (*) are those I really enjoyed. To this list, I should add some african-american, film and religion books I had to read for my essays but I don't really remember now.

And I have a loooooooooot to read this year. Right now I'm with Margaret Atwood and Philip Larkin, but these are some I already have and want to read as soon as I finish the 800 pages of The Blind Assassin.

Favorite Poems I just bought it and it's such an amazing discovery! It's a big book full of great poems and poets, designed for boys and girls, but before I read them to my children and create little monsters their classmates will hate, I want to enjoy it. It has great authors like John Keats, William Carlos Williams, Shakespeare, William Blake, Emily Dickinson and my beloved Langston Hughes. It even has the lyrics of the USA national anthem! This is just a couple of lines I extracted:

A word fitly spoken
Is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

Wanna know where is it from? THE BIBLE. Lol.

Film Journal for 2011

Happy New Year to everybody!

2011 just began so I decided it was time to do something not really drastic but, at least, entertaining. The idea came out when I bought two moleskine notebooks almost at the same time so I was wandering what to do with one of them. Then I thought: "why don't you write a film journal?" And that's what I'm gonna do. My new year's resolution is to watch at least one film per day. I assume some days that will be impossible, but it can be balanced by watching 2 or 3 the same day. The result by 31st December 2011 is to have 365 or more films in my journal. There it will be the basic information (year, director, stars) and my personal mark. Today, 2nd day of this year, I added my first movie to the journal: Gulliver's Travels, the TV movie, and my mark is 7.

End of the Year (to Andrea)

This is something I found lost in my PC, but very adequate for this moment and for my friend Andrea. Sorry for those who don't speak Spanish, this is just an exception, I promise.

Ya se acaba otro año. Y me pongo a pensar. Y voy atrás en el tiempo, unos meses atrás, y me acuerdo de ella, de cómo se fue. Pero voy más atrás, y los recuerdos cambian, son más felices. Y me doy cuenta de que, conforme más me alejo en el tiempo, mis recuerdos son más felices. Y me doy cuenta de que todo, al final, se reduce a forrar un libro, el libro de mi vida. Conforme más y más paso la mano por el forro, van desapareciendo más burbujas, los pequeños malos momentos, y sólo queda una superficie lisa, los buenos. Pero a veces una pequeña piedra se cuela entre el libro y el forro, y ya no se puede quitar, por mucho que pases la mano e intentes alisarlo. Y me voy unos meses atrás, cuando murió mi abuelita… Y pienso que a veces se nos cuelan en el forro pequeñas piedras que nunca se irán. Nos acostumbramos a pasar la mano y notar ese desnivel en nuestra vida, pero no podemos evitarlo, ni debemos evitarlo. Ya forma parte del forro, del libro, de nuestra vida.

  

No matter how awful this year was to any of you, keep in mind that it's coming to its end and a new one is about to begin.

Merry Christmas Best Song Ever

 Not only the best Christmas song ever but also the saddest one. I'm so sorry to do this to you, but I love this song. Have you ever seen  "Meet me in St Louis"? If you didn't, do it now, it's one of the best musical films and a must. If you did, you may remember the context of this song. The family is moving far away and that's why the little girl bursts into tears when she listens to her sister's song, played by Judy Garland. (For the record, all ends well)

First Outfit Post: Reader Look #1: Philip

This is my first post on one of my outfits so, please, be kind and don't laugh more than necessary. 

After several tries in which I looked like, in this order, a nerd, an child prostitute, an old woman who just lost the bus and a middle-aged version of myself, I decided to cover my face and its sleepy look for the better and resolved that I'm better photographer than model.

Cheesecake, not New York style, but even better

Hi everybody!
I'm so sorry I stopped writing interesting stuff, or at least mine (remember my last post was a copy from Andrea's). Any news? Well, yes, I passed my CAE (cambridge exam on advanced level of English) but I'm not staisfied at all with my grade, so fuck 'em! At least I had an "excelent" on the Listening part. I listen really well...
I received an offer to translate something, good news as long as I find an alternative to teaching.
Yesterday I watched a great movie, "Le Scaphandre et le Papillon" (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly), and some days ago "My Left Foot", both about men somehow trapped in their bodies. I fell in love with Daniel Day Lewis in the latest, and his character, Christy Brown, so I bought his autobiography.
Yesterday my boyfriend gave me one of my christmas presents, the Complete Chronicles of Narnia. I know it's a children's book, but I'm curious about it. Notice that the first movie is the second book and the second movie the fourth...
But now, let's go to the important part, the recipe.

This one was given to me by my uncle David. I was looking for some cheesecake recipe, but not the typical one, I wanted one of those that are baked. It's so easy to do that he knew it by heart, so take note:

Ingredients:
-600 g Mascarpone cheese
-3        Eggs
-2        Greek yogurts
-1        yogurt measure of cream
-1        yogurt measure of sugar
-1        yogurt measure of flour
-2        teaspoons of baking powder

Preheat the oven, 200º
Put everything together in a bowl and whisk.
Grease a recipient with butter, sprinkle with flour and put on the base baking paper.
Pour the mixture into the recipient.
Put it inside the oven for 1 hour.
Once 50 min have passed check if it's cooked with a knife. If it goes out clean, it's ok.
Leave it outside until it's cold and then inside the fridge for at least 24 hours. DO NOT EAT IT WARM.
Serve with jam or plain, it's tasty both ways.
