My Favourite Book

I've never read anything from Stephen King...apart from what I consider to be my favourite book. I know many of you would kill me for this, but before cleaning your guns I'll tell you that this book has nothing to do with the rest of King's horror fiction. The Eyes of the Dragon was published in 1987, the year I was born, so I guess it's not coincidence I like it. The Spanish edition was given to me by one of my mom's friends and years later I bought it in English. I've read it several times and it brings me good memories cause I used to re-read it every spring for several consecutive years while eating medlar sitting in my terrace.
It was written for his children so even the style is different. The Eyes of the Dragon tells the story of the kingdom of Delain in the style of Arthur's tales, with magicians, treachery, suffering and love. If you want to know more about the plot click here and if you want some spoilers, here.
I strongly recommend it if you feel like having a good time. I even dare to say that you'll fall in love not only with the book but also with the characters, particularly Peter and his dollhouse.

This thought came to my mind yesterday when I found something about River Phoenix. Then I just remembered how much I liked him in Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade. If we are attracted to people we can't get like models, actors or singers, it shouldn't be strange to us being attracted to dead people. I already had this conversation weeks ago with my friends Lou, Bea and Andrea and some extraordinary names emerged like John Keats or Martin Luther King Jr.

"Death by Chocolate" or my first cake

Remember this recipes book I ordered? Yesterday it was my firts attempt in the magical world of desserts (given the name of my blog that's ironic, I know). I tried with the page 265, a good-looking cake known as DEATH BY CHOCOLATE. It was really death, not only making it -I spent half an hour trying to make the eggs with the sugar grow- but also eating it. It was deathly tasty! In fact, if you don't like chocolate don't even try it, cause it's pure cocoa, and even if you like it, I recommend not to eat a big piece unless you want to feel your arteries obstructing.

Anyway, I encourage you to print the recipe -you can find a photo below, I'm too lazy to copy- and bake it. Hope the result looks more or less like mine.

Gingers are sexy (more often than not)

Yes, I am a fake ginger but this is just the reflection of the hair I should have born with. If someday I'm single again (something I don't want to, to be honest, I'm happily married) I just have two wishes: fuck a ginger and fuck an African-American. Well, if I also can have a relationship with them it's ok. LOL. To be honest, I saw last year the conjuction of these two things and I came to an agreement with myself: ginger black guy: not working.
The thing is I'm really obsessed with gingers, a passion I share with my friend Lou (she really likes those guys who have red beard). So after being blonde, black hair, and several more colours you don't want to know, one day I tried orange AND I LOVED IT. So here I am, ginger and proud. Oh, Lord (not Voldemort), how am I going to wait 8 more months?!?
This afternoon I went to the movies to see "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I" in English, which is quite difficult considering I live in Spain, a country where everything is dubbed -at least, that's changing. But that's another story. My point today is to vindicate that we Harry Potter fans deserve some respect. YES, I LOVE HARRY POTTER AND I'M PROUD! I've read all the books at least twice, both in English and Spanish, I have all the DVDs, I have almost every book that has been published about Rowling's universe...and yes, I feel excited when I hear something about it. So you can imagine how nervous I was today, well, and the last two days, cause for the very first time I didn't watch the movie the first day it was released. But it was worthy. I don't want to spoil it but I feel the need to share my fascination about two particular scenes. First, and keep in mind is not a real thing, it's just Ron's imagination, Harry and Hermione kissing NAKED. Why the face???? Then, one of the movie quotes that should be part of film history. When hermione is trying to read the story of The Three Brothers:

Hermione: It happened at twilight...
Ron: Midnight, my mom used to say midnight. Well, twilight is cool, it's even better.

Thank you, scriptwriter, for that moment!

So that's my enthusiastic review of the movie. One last thing though, if you can't wait to know the ending, wait till the second part is released. Hope you like it too!

Who said that British cooking sucked?

No, I didn't! One of the things I miss the most from my last year in England (I was in Nottingham, in case I didn't mention it before) is the food. Some people would be astonished about this declaration, but I really miss jacked potatoes, fudge chocolate cake, fish and chips, pies... Yes, I know is nothing near healthy, but it's tasty! So, saturday night I went to my friend Andrea's birthday party and there she showed me a great book her boyfriend's grandma gave to her: The Great British Book of Baking. Once I oppened it I discovered a marvelous world of naan bread, crumpets, pies, pastries...and I started to drool like Homer Simpson.
Yesterday I was with my friends Bea and Lou making an order in Amazon.co.uk and Bea and me couldn't help buying one book for each. It was 10 pounds and for that price I think we deserve baking the taste of Britain.
By the way, I just received my previous order (check this post) and Tamara Drewe's book is simply great. I strongly recommend it.

Online Shopaholic

Amazon.co.uk should give me some gift for being such a good client. Well, Ryanair too, but they think 15 flights in less than one year are not enough...
I've just placed an order which could be the online equivalent of a real life afternoon when you come back home with thousands of bags. All began with my research about Tamara Drewe, Gemma Arterton's new movie. So I checked on amazon the comic book that inspired it. And added it to my basket. Then I found out she starred on 2008 a BBC miniseries based on Thomas Hardy's "Tess of the D'Urbervilles". And who was his male partenaire? Hot ginger Eddie Redmayne -who you may remember as Jack on "The Pillars of the Earth".

Then I saw as "recommendations" some other BBC series like "Pride and Prejudice" (check on my list -left- that I'm reading the book right now) but I remembered that some friend already has it, so for once I stopped myself...and instead decided to buy the movie with Keira Knightly and Matthew MacFayden -Prior Phillip on "The Pillars of the Earth", notice everything is connected. After that I went back to Gemma Arterton's profile on imdb.com, great tv and movies website, by the way, and saw that she was also on "The Boat that Rocked", a movie I've longed to watch for ages. So I added it to my basket. And as I didn't qualify for Free Super Saver Delivery, I bought a book I loved but gave to my Chinese friend; Langston Hughes's poetry (take a look at this blog). So, this was my shopping today, for 28 pounds, all included.
